Fire Safety

FIRE EMERGENCY PLAN:

  • Ensure you are aware of the Fire Emergency Plan for your house/apartment and inform all members of your group.

FIRE SAFETY IN YOUR HOME:

  • Check smoke alarms once a week
  • Take care in the kitchen when cooking
  • Do not use portable heaters including radiant bar fires, LPG or halogen
  • Do not use oil lamps, candles, chip pans and similar devices
  • Never smoke inside
  • Keep combustible materials away from heating appliances
  • Turn appliances off when not in use, do not leave them on standby
  • Do not overload electrical sockets
  • Keep aerosols off window sills and out of direct sunlight/heat sources
  • Never disable self-closing devices on doors
  • Do not alter the doors in any way, including adding locks
  • Close all internal doors last thing at night
  • Ensure you keep your escape route clear AT ALL TIMES

FIRE SAFETY IN COMMUNAL AREAS:

  • Do not leave any items obstructing communal areas (including hall/stairs / corridors)
  • Do not obstruct smoke detectors
  • Always put rubbish in the bins provided, do not leave bags of rubbish inside
  • Observe the No Smoking Signs
  • Ensure that the entrance/exit doors/gates remain closed

IN THE EVENT OF FIRE:

  • Leave the room where the fire is and close the door
  • Alert any other people in the house/apartment
  • DO NOT STOP TO COLLECT PERSONAL ITEMS
  • Everyone must leave the premises and ensure the front door is closed
  • Call the Fire and Rescue Service from a place of safety
  • Do not use the lifts (where applicable)
  • Wait outside, away from the building
  • Meet the Fire and Rescue Service upon their arrival and give them the appropriate information regarding the location of fire etc
  • Do not re-enter the building until you have been informed that it is safe by the Fire and Rescue Service
